Czech Industrial Output Hits 4-Month High

Industrial production in the Czech Republic rose by 2.0% year-on-year in May 2026, the strongest expansion in four months, following a 1.5% increase in April. Manufacturing output accelerated to 2.2% from 1.8% in the previous month, driven in particular by a surge in the manufacture of leather and related products (38.4% vs 1.2% in April). Significant contributions also came from the manufacture of wearing apparel (14.7% vs 0.2%), basic pharmaceutical products and pharmaceutical preparations (6.0% vs -8.9%), and computer, electronic and optical products (16.7% vs 11.0%).

Electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply continued to grow, rising 2.1% after a 0.9% increase in April. By contrast, mining and quarrying output remained in decline, although the contraction moderated to 8.3% from 12.9% a month earlier. On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, overall industrial production fell by 0.4% in May 2026, following a 1.4% gain in April.
