Greece Inflation Rate at 3-Month Low

Greece’s annual inflation rate eased to 4.4% in May 2026, down from 5.2% in April, marking the slowest pace of price growth in three months. The deceleration was driven by more moderate increases in the cost of food and non-alcoholic beverages (2.7% vs 3.5% in April), housing and utilities (10.6% vs 11.6%), health (1.1% vs 1.2%), transportation (7.2% vs 11.5%), and restaurants and hotels (7.7% vs 8.5%). Price growth for education remained unchanged at 2.8%.

By contrast, prices rose more quickly for miscellaneous goods and services (1.1% vs 0.9%), while costs rebounded for alcoholic beverages and tobacco (0.3% vs -0.1%) and for clothing and footwear (0.5% vs -0.9%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices were flat in May, the same as in the previous month. Meanwhile, the EU-harmonised inflation rate slowed to 3.9% year-on-year, from 4.9% in April.
