Passenger vehicle sales in India rose 18.2% year-on-year in June 2026 to 326,068 units, moderating from a 25.3% jump in May, according to data from the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM). The robust performance was supported by firm domestic demand, underpinned by lower Goods and Services Tax rates, easing financing costs, and the launch of new models, even as the pace of growth softened compared with the previous month. At the same time, the industry remains watchful of geopolitical developments and the progress of the monsoon, given their impact on agricultural output and rural demand. In May, SIAM noted that the positive momentum seen in the second half of FY 2025–26 had carried over into the first month of FY 2026–27.
