Austria Inflation Confirmed at 3-Month Low

Austria’s annual inflation rate eased to 3.2% in June 2026 from a five‑month high of 3.7% in May, in line with preliminary estimates. This was the lowest rate since March, reflecting weaker price pressures, particularly from fuel and heating oil, as well as a slower increase in food prices.

Nonetheless, transport remained the main driver of inflation, with prices up 6.5% year-on-year. This was largely due to fuel costs, which were still 16.3% higher than a year earlier, and airfares, which jumped 22.4%. Housing and utilities prices increased by 3.0%, while prices for restaurants and accommodation services were up 4.5%. Health-related costs rose 4.4%, and prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages saw only a modest 1.3% increase.

On a monthly basis, consumer prices were unchanged in June, following a 0.1% uptick in May. The annual harmonised index of consumer prices (HICP) was revised slightly higher to 3.2% from the initial estimate of 3.1%, while the monthly HICP remained flat.
