FX.co ★ Argentina Retail Sales Jump in May

Argentina’s retail sales surged 33.1% year-on-year in May 2026 to ARS 670.2 billion, accelerating sharply from April’s 11.9% increase and reaching the highest growth rate in a year. The fastest expansion was recorded in furniture, home décor and household textiles (58.3%), followed by perfumery and pharmacies (46.9%), sporting goods (46.0%), and food courts, food stores and kiosks (40.3%).

Sales also advanced in toys (33.9%), bookstores and stationery (33.9%), clothing, footwear and leather goods (30.5%), and entertainment (20.5%). By contrast, electronics, home appliances and computers registered the weakest performance, with sales up 9.1% from a year earlier.

Regionally, retail sales in the City of Buenos Aires climbed 37.7%, while in the 24 districts of Greater Buenos Aires they increased 33.1%. In the Pampeana Region, sales rose 28.4%, and in the Cuyo Region they grew 29.8%. Finally, sales in the Northern Region and in Patagonia were up 29.5% and 34.9%, respectively.
