Taiwan Consumer Sentiment Drops from Four-Month High

Taiwan’s consumer confidence index slipped to 64.58 in July 2026, down from June’s four-month high of 65.05, signaling a broad-based weakening in sentiment. All six core sub-indicators deteriorated: views on domestic economic conditions eased to 80.53 from 80.87, assessments of household finances declined to 77.42 from 77.70, and expectations for stock investment prospects dropped more sharply to 28.08 from 29.90. Confidence in purchasing durable goods edged down to 93.43 from 93.55, while labor market expectations softened to 72.19 from 72.46. At the same time, future price expectations remained largely subdued at 35.82, barely changed from 35.83 in June. Additional measures also weakened, including the indicator for the timing of real estate purchases (90.13 vs 90.35), current health conditions (86.70 vs 86.82), and expected future health conditions (81.77 vs 81.86).
