Austria Manufacturing Sector Remains in Expansion

The UniCredit Bank Austria Manufacturing PMI rose to 51.5 in July 2026, up from a four-month low of 50.9 in June. The index remained above the 50-point threshold for a fifth consecutive month, signaling continued expansion in the sector, with output growing at its fastest rate since May 2022.

New orders still fell but did so at the slowest pace since January, while export orders continued to weaken amid difficult external market conditions. On the cost side, input price inflation eased to a five-month low, though it remained high compared with its long-run average. Output price inflation also moderated from May’s recent peak.

Looking ahead, Austrian manufacturers became more optimistic about the 12-month outlook. Business confidence rebounded strongly from a one-and-a-half-year low in June to its highest level since just before the outbreak of the Middle East conflict in February, supported by expectations of stronger demand and an improving economic environment.
