Germany’s economy grew by 0.2% in the second quarter of 2026, slowing from an upwardly revised 0.4% in the previous quarter but still exceeding market expectations of a 0.1% increase, according to preliminary estimates. Export activity strengthened compared with the prior quarter, while household consumption remained weak and capital investment declined. On a year-on-year basis, the economy expanded by 0.9%, up from an upwardly revised 0.7% in the first quarter and above the market forecast of 0.6%.
