Uruguay Trade Balance Swings to Deficit in June

Uruguay’s trade balance posted a deficit of $71.7 million in June 2026, reversing from a surplus of $274.8 million in the same month a year earlier. Imports surged 35.5% year-on-year to $1.18 billion, led by a 57% jump in intermediate goods. Within this category, electricity purchases skyrocketed 1,286.1%, while imports of oil and distillates climbed 407.7%. Consumer goods imports rose 13.2%, and capital goods imports advanced 12.7%. On the export side, shipments declined 3.2% to $1.11 billion, as exports of electricity, gas, and water tumbled 87%. Exports of primary products fell 14.8%, whereas exports of manufactured goods increased 7.3%.
