FX.co ★ Baltic Dry Index Up to 2-Month High

The Baltic Exchange's dry bulk freight index, which tracks shipping rates for vessels transporting dry bulk commodities, rose for a fifth consecutive session on Wednesday, gaining 4.3% to 3,063 points—its highest level since June 3—driven largely by strength in the larger vessel segments. The capesize index, covering ships that typically carry about 150,000 tons of cargo such as iron ore and coal, jumped 6.6% to 5,094 points, also the highest since June 3. The panamax index, which reflects rates for vessels transporting approximately 60,000 to 70,000 tons of coal or grain, advanced 2.2% to 2,236 points, its highest reading since July 17. In contrast, the supramax index edged down 0.1% to 1,612 points.
