Sensex Rises for Second Day

India’s BSE Sensex edged up about 0.2% to 78,710 at Thursday’s open, extending the gains from the previous session as investors maintained a risk-on stance amid easing geopolitical tensions, resilient corporate earnings, and a supportive policy backdrop. Sentiment was lifted by optimism over potential diplomatic progress in the Middle East, while the Reserve Bank of India’s decision to leave interest rates unchanged at 5.25% and upgrade its FY2027 growth forecast continued to bolster confidence in domestic equities.

Earnings also underpinned the market, with Aurobindo Pharma, Biocon, Cummins India, GMM Pfaudler, and Navin Fluorine all reporting stronger‑than‑expected June-quarter results, reinforcing expectations of robust profit growth outside the oil marketing segment. Among the notable gainers were Shilpa Medicare (up 7.6%), Navin (5.5%), Hindustan Aeronautics (5.1%), Cupid (2.6%), and Reliance (1.8%).
