TSX Renews Record High

The S&P/TSX Composite Index rose 0.2% to close at 36,458 on Monday, setting another record high as energy and technology shares advanced. Crude oil rallied amid mounting uncertainty over a potential deal between the United States and Iran to end the conflict and reopen the Strait of Hormuz. U.S. President Donald Trump rejected Iran’s demands for war compensation, while Tehran insisted Washington must lift its blockade before it will fully reopen the key waterway.

Energy producers led the market higher, with Canadian Natural up 3.7%, Suncor gaining 4.3%, Imperial Oil advancing 3%, and Cenovus jumping 4.6%. Technology stocks climbed in step with U.S. hyperscalers after brokers pointed to robust cloud-computing demand. Shopify advanced 2.2%, while Constellation Software added 2.6% ahead of its earnings release tomorrow.

Mining shares were mixed. Barrick fell 6.4% after reporting disappointing second-quarter results, whereas Franco-Nevada added 0.8% in the lead-up to its earnings report tomorrow.
