US Stocks Slip as Oil Rebounds

US equities finished lower on Tuesday, with the S&P 500 down 0.3%, the Nasdaq 100 off 0.3%, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average declining 184 points. Crude oil prices edged higher, trimming earlier losses amid conflicting headlines from the Middle East, after Iran reiterated it would keep the Strait of Hormuz closed until its conditions are met.

Treasury yields eased, but credit‑sensitive hyperscalers came under pressure: Alphabet fell 3.8%, Oracle lost 3.7%, Amazon declined 2.1%, and SpaceX dropped 3.9%. Intel (+0.2%) increased the size of its planned stock offering by $5 billion to $20 billion. Nvidia (flat on the day) reportedly secured $500 billion in private financing from banks for AI infrastructure, adding to leverage across the sector.

Investors are now focused on Wednesday’s CPI report, following comments from several FOMC officials that left the door open to a potential rate hike next month. SMCI (+0.4%) and CoreWeave (+2.4%) are scheduled to report after the close.
