UK Consumer Sentiment Edges Higher in August, Thomson Reuters/Ipsos PCSI Shows

Consumer confidence in the United Kingdom improved modestly in August, according to the latest Thomson Reuters/Ipsos Primary Consumer Sentiment Index (PCSI). The index rose to 47.1 in August 2026, up from 46.2 in July 2026.

The uptick suggests a slight strengthening in sentiment among UK consumers as the index moves further away from previous levels, though it remains below the neutral 50 mark that typically separates pessimism from optimism. The updated reading, published on 13 August 2026, reflects the latest snapshot of household perceptions around the economy, personal finances and future expectations.

While the rise from July to August is incremental, the improvement may signal a cautious shift in outlook as consumers reassess economic conditions heading into the latter part of the year.
