Year-ahead inflation expectations in the US, as measured by the University of Michigan Surveys of Consumers, edged up to 4.3% in August 2026 from 4.2% in July, according to a preliminary estimate. The increase was largely attributed to higher energy prices, as the war in Iran constrained oil and fuel supplies from the Middle East. Longer-run inflation expectations, based on a five-year outlook, remained unchanged at 3.3% for the third consecutive month.
