FX.co ★ Baltic Dry Index Up for 2nd Day

The Baltic Exchange's dry bulk freight index, which tracks rates for vessels transporting dry bulk commodities, rose for a second consecutive session on Monday, adding about 0.5% to reach 2,878 points. The capesize index, reflecting earnings for ships that typically carry 150,000-ton cargoes such as iron ore and coal, also gained for a second day, climbing 1.2% to 4,590 points. The supramax index advanced 0.4% to 1,628 points, its highest level since July 28. In contrast, the panamax index, which measures rates for vessels that usually transport 60,000 to 70,000 tons of coal or grain, declined 1% to 2,206 points, its lowest since August 4.
