Atlanta Fed GDPNow Gauge Eases to 4.0% for Q3 2026, Signaling Slight Growth Cooldown

The Atlanta Federal Reserve’s closely watched GDPNow model has revised its estimate for U.S. third-quarter 2026 growth down to 4.0%, from a prior reading of 4.3%. The updated figure, released on 18 August 2026, points to a modest cooling in expected economic momentum, while still indicating robust expansion.

Although the adjustment is relatively small, the move from 4.3% to 4.0% suggests that incoming data for the third quarter have softened the model’s view of real GDP growth. The GDPNow estimate, which tracks high-frequency economic indicators in real time, continues to project an above-trend pace of activity, but with slightly less strength than previously anticipated.

Market participants and policymakers often monitor changes in GDPNow to gauge the evolving growth backdrop. The latest revision underscores a U.S. economy that remains solidly expansionary in Q3 2026, even as expectations are recalibrated at the margin.
