Greece Current Account Gap Narrows to 9-Month Low

Greece’s current account deficit narrowed sharply to €0.603 billion in June 2026, down from €1.195 billion in the same month a year earlier. This was the smallest deficit since September 2025. The improvement was driven mainly by the goods account, where the deficit declined to €2.615 billion from €3.163 billion, as exports surged 27.5%, far outpacing a 7.3% increase in imports.

At the same time, the primary income deficit narrowed significantly to €0.845 billion from €1.128 billion. By contrast, the services surplus fell to €3.242 billion from €3.366 billion, and the secondary income deficit widened to €0.386 billion from €0.270 billion.

Over the first half of 2026, Greece recorded a current account deficit of €9.539 billion, compared with €8.498 billion in the corresponding period of the previous year.
