FX.co ★ Eurozone Construction Output Shrinks in June

Eurozone construction output fell 0.7% year-on-year in June 2026, following a downwardly revised 0.7% increase in May. The decline was largely driven by persistent weakness in building construction, which contracted 6.5%, although this represented a slight improvement from the 7.5% drop recorded in the previous month. Growth also slowed markedly in civil engineering (0.3% vs. 3.5%) and in specialized construction activities (0.2% vs. 2.4%). Among member states, construction activity declined most sharply in France (-4.5% vs. -0.7%) and Belgium (-4.1% vs. 1.8%), while output in Spain slipped 8.5%, moderating from a 12.8% contraction in May. On a monthly basis, overall construction output decreased 1.3%, reversing the 0.2% rise seen in May.
