Cape Verde’s annual inflation rate slowed to 0.4% in July 2026, easing from a five-month high of 1.1% in June. The deceleration was mainly driven by softer price increases in transportation (2.5% vs 5.4% in June), clothing and footwear (2.9% vs 4.7%), and alcoholic beverages and tobacco (3.6% vs 4.3%).
Prices continued to fall for housing and utilities (-3.4% vs -3.6%), communications (-0.3% vs -0.3%), and food and non-alcoholic beverages (-0.1% vs 0.9%).
In contrast, upward pressure on inflation persisted in several categories, with furnishings and household equipment (5.9% vs 5.9%), health (3.4% vs 3.3%), and restaurants and hotels (2.6% vs 1.8%) all registering notable increases.
On a monthly basis, the consumer price index (CPI) rose by 0.2% in July, following a 0.5% gain in the previous month.
