In June 2026, the value of building plans approved in South Africa jumped by 30.5% year-on-year to approximately 9.868 billion, rebounding from a revised 12.9% decline in May. This marked the strongest annual increase since January 2025, driven primarily by a sharp recovery in non-residential building plans, which surged 136.7% after a 10.5% drop in the previous month. Further support came from residential buildings, where approvals rose 7.8% following a 13% fall, and from additions and alterations, which increased 8.9% after a 14.2% decline.
