China Stocks Mixed, Headed for Weekly Losses

The Shanghai Composite slipped 0.3% to 3,891 on Friday, while the Shenzhen Component inched up 0.3% to 14,021, as investors largely stayed on the sidelines amid a lack of new market catalysts. Market focus is shifting to the National People's Congress Standing Committee meeting in Beijing on August 25–28, where investors are looking for fresh policy signals following a run of weak July economic data.

On the corporate front, Hua Hong Semiconductor, Kingboard Laminates, and Zijin Gold International are slated to join the Hang Seng Index, which is expanding its constituents to 100 from 93 to enhance market representation and sector diversification.

Financials dragged on the market, with Industrial and Commercial Bank of China down 0.4%, Agricultural Bank of China off 0.3%, and China Construction Bank easing 0.2%. By contrast, CATL gained 0.6%, Eoptolink Technology advanced 1.7%, and Sungrow Power Supply rose 1%. Both major mainland benchmarks are on track to finish the week lower.
