Belgium’s consumer confidence indicator fell to -7 in August 2026, down from -5 in July, marking a sixth consecutive month in negative territory. The decline was largely driven by mounting concerns about unemployment, with the related index rising to 16 in August from 14 in the previous month, its highest level in sixteen months. At the same time, households’ assessment of the general economic situation in Belgium deteriorated further, with the corresponding index dropping to -32 from -27. Expectations regarding saving capacity also softened slightly, slipping to 22 from 23 and signaling marginally weaker intentions to save. By contrast, views on household financial conditions were unchanged at -2 for the third month in a row.
