The Baltic Exchange's dry bulk freight index, which tracks shipping rates for vessels transporting dry bulk commodities, rose for a second consecutive session on Friday, gaining 1.8% to reach 2,841 points, supported by advances across all vessel segments. The capesize index, reflecting rates for ships that typically carry 150,000-ton cargoes such as iron ore and coal, also increased for a second day, climbing 2.8% to 4,552 points. The panamax index, which measures rates for vessels that usually haul 60,000 to 70,000 tons of coal or grain, broke a seven-session losing streak, adding 0.7% to 2,108 points. Among smaller vessels, the supramax index rose to its highest level since July. Despite the latest daily gains, the benchmark index posted a weekly loss of 0.8%.
