Sweden Household Lending Growth Highest Since 2022

The annual growth rate of lending to Swedish households inched up to 3.3% in July 2026 from 3.2% in June, reaching its highest level since December 2022. Housing loans, which made up 83% of total household credit, increased by 3.4%, while consumer loans, accounting for 6% of the total, grew by 1.3%. Lending to non-financial corporations also rose, advancing by 3.5%.

Borrowing costs continued to ease across all categories. The average interest rate on new housing loan agreements declined to 2.78% from 2.80% in June, while the average floating mortgage rate edged down to 2.74% from 2.75%. The average fixed rate on new housing loans with maturities of one to five years fell to 3.15% from 3.21%, and rates on loans with maturities exceeding five years decreased to 3.21% from 3.30%.

Total household deposits slipped to SEK 2,967 billion in July from SEK 2,983 billion in June. Demand deposits represented 74% of total savings, amounting to SEK 2,206 billion.
