Mozambique’s gross domestic product grew 1.7% year-on-year in Q2 2026, accelerating from a modest 0.1% expansion in the previous quarter and marking the third consecutive period of growth. The tertiary sector was the main driver, expanding 2.5%, supported in particular by strong gains in hotels and restaurants (+14.5%) and financial services (+4.2%). The primary sector also grew, rising 1.8% on the back of agriculture, livestock, forestry and related activities (+2.0%) and mining (+1.7%), although fishing contracted by 1.1%. By contrast, the secondary sector shrank 6.0%, largely reflecting an 11.2% decline in manufacturing, despite a 7.1% increase in electricity, gas and water distribution and a 0.8% rise in construction.
