Macau Trade Deficit Widens in July

Macau’s trade deficit widened to MOP 10.0 billion in July 2026, from MOP 8.9 billion in the same month a year earlier. Imports rose 13.4% year-on-year to MOP 11.5 billion, driven by higher purchases of gold jewellery (55.8%) and garments and footwear (4.0%). By contrast, imports of food and beverages fell 6.2%, although this category remained the leading import item. Among major trading partners, imports increased sharply from China (48.6%), Hong Kong (60.6%), and Italy (44.7%).

Exports grew 13.6% to MOP 1.5 billion, supported by higher shipments of knitted or crocheted garments (19.0%), diamond and diamond jewellery (15.0%), and machines, apparatus and parts (59.1%). Export growth was particularly strong to Hong Kong (24.8%), the United States (20.1%), and India (191.6%).

For the January–July period, Macau’s trade deficit widened to MOP 77.3 billion, compared with MOP 42.1 billion in the same period of the previous year.
