Sensex Finishes Higher

India’s BSE Sensex ended Friday up 0.4% at 77,264.5, snapping a two-day losing streak as softer crude oil prices and a constructive global outlook for the technology sector lent support. Sentiment, however, remained tempered by lingering unease over India’s new closing-auction mechanism, which has been blamed for sharp price swings on monthly derivatives expiry sessions.

Investors also stayed cautious ahead of Fed Chair Kevin Warsh’s first keynote address at the Jackson Hole symposium, seeking signals on the US Federal Reserve’s policy stance for September.

Technology shares led the gains on the day: TCS jumped 4.1%, Infosys advanced 3.3%, Tech Mahindra climbed 3.2%, and HCL Technologies added 2.7%.
