Hungary’s Producer Prices Swing Back to Growth in July, Ending Brief Deflation

Hungary’s producer price index (PPI) returned to positive territory in July 2026, marking a notable turnaround after a brief dip into negative territory a month earlier. Year-over-year, PPI rose 1.0% in July, compared with a 0.4% decline recorded in June 2026.

The data, updated on 31 August 2026, show that producer prices, which had been falling on an annual basis in June, have resumed growth when compared with the same month a year earlier. This year-over-year shift from -0.4% to 1.0% suggests a renewed upward pressure on factory-gate prices within a relatively short period.

The July reading will be closely watched by markets and policymakers as they assess whether the move back into positive territory signals a more sustained rebound in input and output prices, or simply volatility in an otherwise subdued producer price environment.
