Hungary Manufacturing Growth Edges Lower in August

Hungary’s Manufacturing PMI slipped to 51.3 in August 2026 from 51.4 in July, remaining above the 50-point mark that separates expansion from contraction. Although the indicator came in below its long-term monthly average of 52.7, it stayed above the average August reading of 49.7 over the past three years, signaling continued—albeit slower—growth in manufacturing activity. The moderation was driven by softer new orders, which nevertheless stayed in expansionary territory, and by a decline in production volumes compared with the previous month, even as output continued to grow overall. At the same time, the purchase price index eased but still pointed to a strong increase in input costs. The employment index also edged lower yet remained in expansion, and both export and import components continued to indicate growth.
