FX.co ★ Austria Jobless Rate Rises to 7.2%

Austria’s unemployment rate rose to 7.2% in August 2026, an increase of 0.2 percentage points compared with a year earlier. The total number of unemployed climbed by 10,027 year-on-year to 311,448.

By gender, unemployment among women increased by 6.3% to 151,513, while unemployment among men and people of other genders rose by 0.7% to 159,935.

Dependent employment was estimated at 4,003,000, up by 10,000 compared with August 2025.

Including participants in training programs, the combined number of unemployed and people enrolled in training reached 375,730, an increase of 2.3% year-on-year. Within this group, the number of women rose by 5.8%, while the number of men and people of other genders declined by 0.8%.

Long-term unemployment also remained high: the number of people unemployed for more than 12 months increased by 22.6% to 55,995.
