Macedonia’s current account deficit widened to USD 308.50 million in the second quarter of 2026, compared with USD 216.95 million in the same period a year earlier. The deterioration was driven primarily by a larger goods trade deficit, which expanded to USD 1,027.93 million from USD 849.04 million. The primary income deficit also increased, reaching USD 261.89 million, up from USD 229.98 million.

These negative developments were partly offset by improvements in other components of the current account. The services account surplus rose to USD 300.25 million from USD 222.54 million, while the secondary income surplus increased to USD 681.07 million from USD 639.52 million.
