Spain’s new passenger car registrations climbed 11.8% year-on-year in August 2026 to 68,544 units, the strongest result for an August since 2019. Despite the holiday season, the market returned to growth, buoyed by robust demand for electrified vehicles, which represented more than one quarter of total sales.
Among market segments, rental registrations recorded the fastest growth, surging 32% to 2,268 units. Business sales followed, rising 13.1% to 27,167 units, while private registrations increased 9.9% to 39,109 units.
In the year to date, 818,201 new passenger cars have been registered, an increase of 6.3% compared with the same period a year earlier.
Registrations of electrified vehicles—including BEVs and PHEVs—jumped 27% in August to 18,967 units, giving them a 27.7% share of the market. Since the beginning of the year, 185,340 electrified vehicles have been sold, up 34.1% year-on-year and accounting for 22.6% of all registrations.
