Eurozone Private-Sector Growth Holds Firm in August

The S&P Global Eurozone Composite PMI registered 52.0 in August 2026, broadly in line with the flash estimate of 52.1 and little changed from July’s eight‑month high. The latest reading signals another solid quarter of growth in Q3, underpinned by stronger industrial activity and a rebound in services after the initial shock from surging energy prices at the onset of the Middle East conflict. New orders continued to grow at July’s solid pace, while new export orders rose for the first time in four and a half years. Employment increased for the first time this year, even as backlogs of work kept falling, albeit more slowly. Overall inflationary pressures were broadly steady: input costs edged down slightly, while output charges rose at the same rate as in July. Nonetheless, price pressures remained elevated by historical standards. Business confidence was unchanged.
