Austria Wholesale Inflation Hits Over 3-Year High

Austria’s wholesale prices rose 8.2% year-on-year in August 2026, accelerating from 6.9% in July and reaching their highest level since February 2023. The increase was largely driven by sharp price gains in other liquid and gaseous fuels and related products (52.3%), motor spirit (33.6%), plastics and rubber in primary forms (23.9%), and waste and scrap (23.4%).

Significant price increases were also observed in non-ferrous metals (19.6%), information and communication equipment (17.4%), other machinery and equipment (17.4%), solid fuels (13.1%), and iron and steel (10.0%).

By contrast, prices declined for live animals (-11.9%), dairy products, eggs, and edible oils and fats (-1.4%), radio, television, recording and reproduction equipment (-1.3%), and fruits and vegetables (-1.1%).

On a monthly basis, wholesale prices rose 0.9% in August, edging up from 0.8% in July. The uptick was mainly driven by higher prices for other liquid and gaseous fuels and related products (7.4%), as well as for grain, seeds, and animal feeds (4.7%).
