The Baltic Exchange’s dry bulk freight index, which tracks rates for ships transporting dry bulk commodities, fell 1.4% to 3,575 points on Monday, ending a three-day winning streak but remaining near its highest level since October 2021. The capesize index, which typically reflects vessels carrying 150,000-ton cargoes such as iron ore and coal, declined 2.2% to 6,286 points, also snapping a three-session rise yet staying close to its strongest level since December 2023. Meanwhile, the panamax index, which measures rates for ships carrying around 60,000 to 70,000 tons of coal or grain, fell for a second consecutive session, down 0.7% to 2,431 points. Among smaller vessels, the supramax index inched up 0.4% to 1,682 points.
