Poland Inflation Rate Hits Over 1-Year High

The annual inflation rate in Poland climbed to 3.4% in August 2026 from 3.0% in July, in line with preliminary estimates. This was the highest reading since June 2025. The acceleration was driven by higher prices in several categories, including housing and utilities (4.6% vs 4.5% in July), transport (11.2% vs 7.0%), recreation, sports and culture (6.5% vs 5.4%), education (5.4% vs 5.3%), and personal hygiene, social protection and other goods and services (2.4% vs 1.6%).

In contrast, price growth slowed for alcoholic beverages and tobacco (6.6% vs 6.9%), health (4.7% vs 4.9%), and information and communication (3.5% vs 5.2%), while it remained unchanged for restaurants and accommodation services (4.2%). At the same time, deflation in clothing and footwear moderated (-2.9% vs -3.6%), whereas prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages fell at a faster pace (-0.9% vs -0.4%).

On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose 0.3% in August, slowing from a 0.8% increase in the previous month.
