Austria’s Harmonised Inflation Ticks Up to 2.9% in August 2026

Austria’s Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) edged higher in August 2026, with the year-over-year rate rising to 2.9%, up from 2.7% previously. The prior reading of 2.7% also referred to August 2026 on a year-over-year basis, indicating that the latest figure reflects an updated assessment rather than a different monthly comparison.

The HICP measure, which is harmonised across the European Union to enable cross-country comparisons, shows that consumer price pressures in Austria remained moderate but slightly stronger than earlier estimated. According to the latest release, updated on 17 September 2026, the “actual” figure compares price changes in August 2026 to August 2025, while the previous figure captured the same year-over-year change based on earlier data.

The upward revision to 2.9% suggests inflation is running just under the 3% mark, a level that will be closely watched by investors and policymakers assessing the trajectory of prices in Austria within the broader euro area context.
