Taiwan Stocks Hit 2-Month High on Tech Boost

The TAIEX, Taiwan’s benchmark stock index, rose 268 points, or 0.6%, to 47,449 on Monday, extending its winning streak to a fourth consecutive session and marking its highest level since June 22, when it set a record peak. The advance was driven primarily by gains in electronic technology, commercial services, and energy minerals.

The electronic technology sector climbed 1.0%, supported by a 0.6% rise in TSMC, the world’s largest contract chipmaker, which alone accounts for more than 40% of the market’s total capitalization. MediaTek and ASE Technology Holding also posted strong performances, jumping 5.4% and 4.1%, respectively.

The broader market moved in step with gains in U.S. stock futures, even as the Dow Jones Industrial Average recently logged its third straight weekly decline. Investors remained cautious, keeping a close watch on U.S.–China relations ahead of the planned Trump–Xi summit on September 24. Market participants were also awaiting Taiwan’s August export orders data, due after the close, following a sharp increase in July.
