European equity markets were poised to open higher on Monday, supported by a fourth consecutive decline in oil prices amid hopes for a diplomatic resolution to the Middle East conflict, which in turn eased inflation concerns. President Donald Trump said he would “probably” be willing to meet Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly this week, where he may also confer with other Persian Gulf leaders. Investors were likewise tracking ongoing US–China negotiations ahead of a summit between Presidents Donald Trump and Xi Jinping later this week. In Europe, Germany is grappling with a serious political crisis, with embattled Chancellor Friedrich Merz pledging to stay in office and pursue potentially difficult reforms in the continent’s largest economy. Meanwhile, no major economic data releases or corporate earnings reports are scheduled in Europe on Monday. In premarket trading, Euro Stoxx 50 and Stoxx 600 futures were up 0.7% and 0.5%, respectively.
