FX.co ★ Luxembourg Unemployment Rises to Highest Since 2020

Luxembourg’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate rose to 6.5% in August 2026, its highest level since July 2020, up from 6.3% in July. The number of unemployed increased by 464 over the month to 20,900, with the rise particularly marked among highly qualified job seekers (19%). By age group, the sharpest increase was recorded among those aged 30 to 44 (13.9%), followed by those aged 16 to 29 (13.5%).

Total employment also grew, rising by 139 to 302,888, while the labor force expanded by 602 to 323,787. In terms of cross-border employment, the number of resident workers employed abroad increased by 26 to 15,544, and the number of incoming cross-border workers rose by 227 to 235,753. For comparison, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in August 2025 was 5.9%.
