Employment in Australia rose by 39,500 in August 2026 to a new record high of 14.84 million, more than offsetting a marginally revised decline of 15,900 in July and far surpassing market forecasts for a 20,000 increase. Part-time employment jumped by 45,800 to 4.64 million, while full-time employment fell by 6,300 to 10.19 million. The employment-to-population ratio inched up to 63.9% from 63.8%, and the participation rate rose to 67.1% from 66.9% in July. Year-on-year, total employment grew by 238,100, or 1.6%.
