Washington has confirmed that the U.S.–China trade truce will remain in effect until January 10, 2027, extending tariff relief and the flow of rare earths beyond the originally scheduled November expiration. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced the decision on Wednesday as Chinese leader Xi Jinping arrived for a state visit, emphasizing that Beijing must still make additional commitments. The moratorium, first agreed by Xi and then-President Donald Trump in South Korea last October, had been widely expected to be extended, with markets pricing in at least a six-month prolongation ahead of the summit.
