US Futures Fall to Start the Week

US stock futures slipped on Monday as investors awaited fresh catalysts for markets in the week ahead while closely monitoring tensions in the Middle East. President Trump rejected Iran’s latest proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, saying Tehran had overplayed its hand, but indicated he expects negotiations to resume this week. Equities remained under pressure from elevated oil prices, which intensified inflation concerns and reinforced expectations for a more hawkish interest-rate path. Treasury yields climbed to multi-decade highs last week amid forecasts of further Federal Reserve tightening and mounting worries over US government debt. Investors are now focused on the Fed’s preferred inflation gauge and key US employment data due later this week. Elsewhere, Trump was scheduled to dine on Sunday with Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, with the meeting expected to address the executive’s recent calls to slow the rollout of new AI models.
