Hong Kong Shares Recover After Three Losses

The Hang Seng Index advanced 0.5%, or 124 points, to around 24,635 on Monday, snapping a three-session losing streak, supported by gains in financial, technology, and energy-related shares. This rebound came even as US Treasury yields climbed to multi-decade highs, reflecting market expectations of additional Federal Reserve rate hikes. Crude oil prices also strengthened after President Donald Trump rejected Iran’s proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, while Tehran signaled it would not soften its conditions for restoring traffic through the key shipping corridor. Domestically, China’s industrial profits rose 15.7% year-on-year to CNY 5.27 trillion in the first eight months of 2026, easing from 17.6% growth in the January–July period and underscoring a moderation in corporate earnings momentum. Among notable movers, Tencent gained 1.8%, AIA rose 0.9%, KE Holdings added 2.6%, InSilico Medicine edged up 0.3%, and Meituan advanced 0.2%.
