U.S. Q2 GDP Price Index Eases to 6.1%, Signaling Slight Cooling in Inflation Pressures

The U.S. GDP Price Index for the second quarter came in at 6.1% quarter-over-quarter, moderating slightly from the previously recorded 6.4% in the same period, according to data updated on 30 September 2026. The indicator measures the change in prices for all goods and services included in gross domestic product, offering a broad gauge of inflation across the economy.

On a quarter-over-quarter basis, the latest reading shows that while price growth remains elevated, underlying inflationary pressures may be beginning to ease compared with the prior quarter’s pace. The “actual” figure reflects the current quarter’s change relative to the previous quarter, while the “previous” figure captured the change in that earlier quarter versus the one before it.

The modest slowdown from 6.4% to 6.1% will be closely watched by markets and policymakers as they assess whether inflation is gradually losing momentum or simply stabilizing at a high level. With both readings taken from the second quarter of 2026, the focus now shifts to whether subsequent quarters confirm a sustained cooling trend in price growth across the broader U.S. economy.
