Dutch Inflation Inches Up to 3.4% in September, Breaking Recent Easing Trend

The Netherlands’ consumer price inflation edged higher in September 2026, with the year-over-year Consumer Price Index (CPI) rising to 3.4%, up slightly from 3.3% in August 2026. The figures, updated on 2 October 2026, point to a modest reacceleration in price growth after a period of gradual easing.

Both the current and previous readings are calculated on a year-over-year basis, comparing each month’s price level to the same month a year earlier. The uptick suggests that, while inflation remains far below the peaks seen in recent years in many European economies, underlying price pressures in the Netherlands have not fully subsided.

For policymakers and financial markets, the data may temper expectations of a rapid normalization in inflation. A continued drift upward, even if marginal, will be closely watched for its implications for household purchasing power, wage negotiations, and the broader trajectory of monetary policy in the euro area.
