Euro Zone Retail Sales Edge Back Into Growth in August After July Slump

Euro Zone retail sales returned to marginal growth in August 2026, rising 0.1% month-over-month after a sharp decline in July, according to data updated on 06 October 2026. The modest uptick follows a -0.6% month-on-month contraction in July 2026, suggesting a tentative stabilization in consumer spending across the currency bloc.

The month-over-month comparison shows that while retail activity remains subdued, the August reading marks an improvement from the previous month’s pullback. The “actual” figure of 0.1% reflects the change in retail sales from August to July 2026, whereas the “previous” figure of -0.6% measures the change in July relative to June 2026.

Although the rebound is slight, the shift from a noticeable decline to a marginal gain indicates that consumer demand in the Euro Zone may be slowly regaining momentum after mid-summer weakness.
