France’s Trade Deficit Narrows in August as External Gap Eases

France’s trade deficit narrowed in August 2026, offering a modest sign of improvement in the country’s external position. According to the latest data updated on 7 October 2026, the trade balance improved to -€6.1 billion, compared with a deficit of -€6.6 billion recorded in July 2026.

The €0.5 billion reduction in the monthly deficit indicates that exports are better matching imports than in the previous month, even though the trade balance remains firmly in negative territory. While the figures still point to persistent structural imbalances in France’s trade, the August data may be viewed as a tentative step toward stabilization in the country’s external accounts.
