Czech Industrial Output at 3-Month Low

Industrial production in the Czech Republic rose by 2.6% year-on-year in August 2026, slowing from a 3.1% increase in July and falling short of market expectations. This was the weakest growth since May. The deceleration was mainly driven by a sharp slowdown in the electricity, gas, steam and air-conditioning supply sector, where output growth dropped to 2.0% from 10.8% in the previous month.

By contrast, manufacturing activity strengthened slightly, with output expanding by 2.7% compared with 2.6% in July. This improvement was underpinned by stronger production of wood and wood products (up 4.4% vs 2.0% previously) and paper and paper products (up 8.1% vs 0.6%). At the same time, the downturn in mining and quarrying eased markedly, with output edging down just 0.1% after an 11.9% contraction in July.

On a seasonally adjusted month-on-month basis, industrial production increased by 0.3% in August, recovering from a 1.1% decline in the previous month.
